Sining Kambayoka

Founded in 1974 by film and theater actor and director Frank G. Rivera and former MSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rufino Ignasio (with support from Meranaw researcher Dr. Nagasura T. Madale), the Sining Kambayoka Ensemble (SKE) is the oldest existing theatre group in Mindanao. It is known for its distinct theatre form, the Kambayoka, based on the Maranao bayok and darangen traditional storytelling forms.[1] SKE won a number of awards, including:[2]

  • Aliw Awards for Most Promising Cultural Troupe of the Philippines (1977)
  • Kalilangan Awards for the Best Cultural Troupe of the Philippines (1977)
  • Aliw Awards Best Musical Production "Halik sa Kampilan" (1978)
  • Gawad Balagtas for Drama from Surian ng Wikang Pambansa (1981)
  • Gawad CCP for Sining Pangtanghalan (1989)
  • CCP National Drama Competition Regional Winner for "Usa Ka Damgo" (1996)
  • Aliw Awards Best Non-Musical Production "Rajah Indarapatra" (2011)
